Stream Of Life [Indie exclusive eco splatter vinyl]
$27.98  27.98
chart cover
Maxïmo Park tomorrow announce their eighth studio album, Stream Of Life for release on September 27th via Lower Third. The road to Stream of Life saw the band link up once again with Ben Allen (Gnarls Barkley, Animal Collective), Grammy-winning producer of 2021’s near-chart-topping, pandemic-era tour de force Nature Always Wins, and as a result it marks the first time they have all been together in a studio to make an album since 2016. It finds the band in perhaps the most reflective state they’ve been in. Lead singer Paul Smith, this most lit-pop of lyric writers, took the album title from a short story by Ukrainian-born Brazilian writer Clarice Lispector, inspired by both its stream of consciousness style and the way it prompts reflection on the inner mechanisms of people's minds. It begs the question of why they do the things that they do, even when they can seem counterintuitive to the outsider. There's an inner flow to every individual - a stream of life.

Millar has played and toured as a guitarist for years in other bands, but it wasn't until the pandemic that his love of the sunny-side-up sparked the idea to try his own hand at that perfect balance of catchy choruses and timeless melody.

Nite Owls [Indie Exclusive Blue, Black and White Splatter Signed LP]
$33.98  33.98
chart cover
JD McPherson has created something unique and amazing with his latest album, Nite Owls. His first album release since 2018s critically acclaimed Christmas classic, SOCKS. Over the past 5+ years, McPherson has stayed consistently busy writing new songs while at the same time touring with Alison Krauss and Robert Plant. Being a touring musician offers the chance to see the sights, tour the town and pick up some inspiration from the local record shop. With Nite Owls, JD wanted to try something new and different. He wanted to take the inspiration from multiple decades and styles and incorporate them into his own sound. The initial idea for the record was: Its like if The late-60s Ventures were the session band on the first New Order record. Says, McPherson. Idea achieved. Nite Owls delivers the signature sounds of vintage garage-rock while also seamlessly bridging the sounds of Bowie and Alan Vega. Songs such as Sunshine Getaway, The Rock and Roll Girls and I Cant Go Anywhere with You sound like Chuck Berry is jamming with Buddy Holly. While songs like Nite Owls and Dont Travel Through the Night Alone give a nod to the Factory sound from the UK. The throwback sound of the lone instrumental track The Phantom Lover of New Rochelle would make Dick Dale ride and Link Wray rumble. With Nite Owls, McPherson takes inspiration from multiple genres of the past and combines them together to evolve a sound that is all his own.

Finger Pickin Good [ThinkIndie Exclusive Finger Lickin Green]
$29.99  29.99
chart cover
ThinkIndie Exclusive - Guitar master Dennis Coffeys first LP for Westbound records was released in 1975. It remains a tour de force in funky guitar mastery unlike anything else. While Coffeys guitar fireworks remain squarely at the center of Finger Lickin Good, some of the more psychedelic elements of his earlier work fall away and are replaced by a slicker, more produced sound. This new style clearly lays the groundwork for Coffeys transition, as the 70s progress, into a more commercial, disco-oriented sound on his own recordings as well as on his writing and production work for other artists such as CJ and Co. This long overdue reissue, retitled Finger Pickin Good, was remastered by Dave Gardner and includes a previously unissued bonus track.

A Los Angeles singer/songwriter with an acute gift for intimate and detailed introspection, Christian Lee Hutson threads through avenues of light Americana, smart indie pop, and lo-fi folk storytelling. The tone of his music is usually gentle, but there's an insistence and clarity in his lyrics that gives his performances a strength alongside it's newfound indie rock edge. Although he began his solo career in the early 2010s, he gained popularity as a writer and collaborator during the latter part of the decade, working on projects with Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridgers, the latter of whom helped produce Hutson's Anti- debut, Beginners, in 2020. Bridgers and Oberst teamed up to produce 2022's Quitters, and now Bridgers is back producing his new record 'Paradise Pop. 10'

Double vinyl LP pressing. In 1999, the same year that Jason Moran released his debut recording Soundtrack To Human Motion, the pianist and composer also joined New Directions, a band made up of young stars from the Blue Note roster. At the core of New Directions was the genesis of a rhythm section-with Moran, bassist Tarus Mateen, and drummer Nasheet Waits-that would go on to become one of the most enduringly creative and acclaimed piano trios in jazz. The Bandwagon made their first recording as a trio with Facing Left in 2000 and has been the foundation of the majority of Moran's artistic statements since. On his 2010 album Ten, Moran celebrated the 10th anniversary of The Bandwagon with an assured album that was a snapshot of a mature band with a decade of shared musical experience from which to draw. In addition to provocative originals the album presented singular interpretations of pieces by Thelonious Monk, Jaki Byard, Leonard Bernstein, and Conlon Nancarrow. This first-time vinyl release includes the bonus track "Thelonious" previously only available in Japan.

O Ternos 2019 DIY masterpiece of modern Brazilian pop,, is now widely available on vinyl for the firsttime. The album (which features Devendra Banhart andShintaro Sakamoto) had its first limited domestic vinylpressing evaporate instantly, necessitating this essentialPsychic Hotline pressing and an opportunity to introduceO Terno ("The Suit" - they both have three pieces, get it?)to a wider audience with their fourth and finest album. At its core the band is made up of Tim Bernardes (leadsinger, songwriter, guitarist and piano player), GuilhermePeixe DAlmeida (bass) and Gabriel Biel Basile (drums)though all three play a part in producing, with Bernardesstepping forward to mix this record as well as composingand arranging s orchestral elements.A distinct departure from their previous albums - moresixties pop and less indie and psych rock - isthe product of the band working in a familiar studio(RISCO) surrounded by a creative community. In thestudio, they followed the open-source formula mapped outby The Beatles, The Kinks, Os Mutantes, Harry Nilson andothers: write a good song (the hardest part), create asimple, yet elegant arrangement for bass, drums andguitar/piano, adorn the song with complementaryinstruments and melodies, and record it well, employingstudio wizardry selectively and intentionally. As a result, the album sounds both retro in its analog texture andminimalist production, but contemporary in Bernardessongwriting and vocal style, which owes as much to RobinPecknold (Fleet Foxes) and Grizzly Bear as to MiltonNascimento, Caetano Veloso or John Lennon.

Songs in A&E [LP]
$35.98  35.98
chart cover

Songs in A&E is a beautiful, chilling record and it was very nearly the last thing J Spaceman would ever release. In 2005, with the writing and recording well underway, Spaceman was rushed to the Royal London Infirmary with double pneumonia. The sleeve of this reissue is a photograph taken as he lay in what his close friends and family feared at the time was his deathbed. We thought hed gone, recalled band mate John Coxon at the time. The album is collection of graceful, country-influenced songs that muse on familiar themes of love, death, hope and hopelessness. The country element was informed by a small black 1928 Gibson acoustic hed bought in Cincinnati while the band toured the Amazing Grace record. Spaceman called it The Devil. J Spaceman: Mostly, when you buy a guitar, like most things, you don't really have any idea of whether it's good or not. And this shop had about eight of the same models for comparison, but this one was in a cage, to keep people away from it, like they knew it was kind of special. And it's beautiful. It just sings. And it kind of came with those songs, which is obviously a sort of romantic notion, but it really felt like it did. I'd never written on a guitar until this point and it seemed to come with all of this information.

It was this performance that would propel him to number 1 and 2 inthe iTunes Album and Singles Charts.Maintaining his status as one of the most acclaimed voices in the UK Americana rockscene, Roberts new songs represent a real left turn for an artist who is ready forsomething more. The intimacy and introspection of this evolving journey on the albums songs iscaptured by the sure hand and keen ear of award-winning producer Ethan Johnswhose work with Ray Lamontagne is a real touchstone for Vincents own ambition, mellowness, and honesty on Barriers. Johns also mixes the album and provides hisown gifted instrumentation.

In the last decade, Daniel Davies has become a lauded composer of atmospheric,synth-heavy instrumental music-for film and TV scores, alongside JohnCarpenter on the director's Lost Themes albums, and on solo releases like Signalsand Spies. But in his previous musical life, Davies was a rocker, touring all overthe world with heavy bands like Year Long Disaster and Karma to Burn. Aftersetting rock music aside to focus on his soundtrack and instrumental work, themulti-instrumentalist has found himself falling back in love with loud guitarsover the past couple of years.Ghost of the Heart, the first full-length alt-rock album Davies has ever releasedunder his own name, captures the excitement of that rediscovered love. Aftera decade of making music that either had to match a filmed image or create amental one, he sounds liberated by the concrete, reliable logic of verse/chorus/verse. The songs on Ghost of the Heart don't fit neatly into any one subgenre:they're moody, heavy, and a little proggy, but with a strong pop sensibility andlots of melody. The album divulges Davies' affinity for hooky, forward-thinkingbands like Radiohead and Blur, but more than anything, Ghost of the Heart feelsnatural, like he's tapping back into something fundamental about himself as amusician. "My first love is writing rock songs," Davies says. "It just felt like theright time to get back to it."Ghost of the Heart is a special album for Davies. It sees him returning to hisorigins in rock music, but it also couldn't have been made without the lessons ofhis time in the film world. In the truest sense, it's a career-defining work, one thatshowcases everything he's learned in his decades as a musician. It reveals a doorthat, now opened, can take Davies anywhere he wants to go.

Now the beloved indie band is back with their first new album in six years, As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again - not only the longest Decemberists album to date (and their first intentional, proper double-LP) but also their most empathetic and accessible, its 13 songs like semaphores of mutual recognition for our fraught times and faint hope. The first dozen songs are punchy, pithy gems all, reflections on mortality and loneliness, longing and cynicism, expectation and unease. The band animates them brilliantly, pushing out and pulling in at the perfect moments. John Moen practically dances beneath the jangle of opener Burial Ground, breathing the life into this song about spiraling toward the end. From the irrepressible Oh No!" and guileless tenderness and absolute surrender of All I Want Is You, to the romantic ghost story that shimmers behind pedal steel in spite of the specter in "Long White Veil," these 12 songs alone would constitute a dazzling Decemberists album, rich with woe and love, anxiety and honesty. But a keening little choir and arid electric guitar invoke Joan in the Garden, the bands first full-on prog escapade since The Crane Wife. Though rooted in doubt, much like the album it ends, Joan in the Garden ultimately lands as a celebration of musics ability to convey valence and ambiguity, to frame an endlessly complicated story in instantly compelling terms.

This, songwriter Colin Meloy will tell you proudly, is the best Decemberists albums and perhaps the ultimate realization of 22 years of work. In many ways, As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again feels like an aptly titled renewal for The Decemberists. The first full-length release on YABB Records, the bands own label, after a run of nearly two decades with Capitol. As they were once, here are the Decemberists again, now an independent band empowered by singing stories that sound instantly familiar and convey some bit of hard-won wisdom.

The Early November [Indie Exclusive Swamp Green in Clear w/ Brown Splatter LP]
$25.98  25.98
chart cover
Alternative rock group The Early November is thrilled to announce their forthcoming Self-Titled album, set for release on June 14th via Pure Noise Records. Featuring lead single What We Earn, The Early November is a 10 song collection that pays homage to who the band is, was, and has yet to become.
On the new single, frontman Ace Enders shares: What We Earn was the first song written for the album, and probably the most intense as well. Its about the realization that the glass ceiling over our heads is supported by the walls we build throughout our lives.
After two decades, it would be all too easy for a band to just phone it incapitalize on the fanbase theyve built up in that time and just make a watered-down version of themselves. Not for The Early November, however. Ever since forming in New Jersey in 2001, the band, now consisting of front man Ace Enders and founding drummer Jeff Kummer have constantly been striving to find the best and most definitive version of themselves. With this self-titled record, the seventh studio album of their career, the duo have come as close as is possible to doing so. Its an album that ties the past, present and future all together, and as such, it marks what Enders calls a period or exclamation point in our sentence. Its not a new beginning, per se, but nevertheless something emphatic that signifies, in Enders words again, a pivotal moment for them both.

A cafe in Paris, a cocktail lounge in Palm Springs, a beachside bar in Rio de Janeiro, a lokanta in Istanbul. Jill Barber's French repertoire is played around the world and has earned her a following that transcends language barriers. Her music has become the soundtrack to an experience. It is a surprising achievement for an anglophone artist who only began her affair with the French language in her late twenties, following a moment during the Montreal Jazz Festival, where she sang a few notes of French to an enraptured crowd. Inspired by their reaction, Jill enrolled herself in an immersive French school in the South of France, eventually emerging with her own recordings of the songs and poets that inspired her most: Piaf, Gainsbourg, Aznavour. The album "Chansons" was released in 2013 and has since become Jill's most globally successful record to date, having been streamed over 120 million times - with more than 35 million listens in the past year alone. A full decade later, Jill has reunited with Grammy Award-nominated producer Drew Jurecka and the musicians that accompanied her on "Chansons" to produce "ENCORE!", it's long-awaited sequel. "ENCORE!" is a delightfully arranged and lushly orchestrated album, featuring all new interpretations of classic songs by Edith Piaf, Charles Trenet, Blossom Dearie, Django Reinhardt, Robert Charlebois, Josephine Baker, and Barbara.

$34.98  34.98

Despite the albums playful title, Cales second album in just over a year still contains the same feelings of fierce and inquisitive rage that were present in 2023 albumMERCY.He remains angry, still incensed by the willful destruction that unchecked capitalists and unrepentant conmen have hoisted upon the wonders of this world and the goodness of its people. But this is not at allMERCY II, or some collection of castoffs, as throughout his career of more than six decades, Cale has never been much for repetition. His vanguard-shaping enthusiasms have shifted among ecstatic classicism and unbound rock, classic songcraft and electronic reimagination with proud restlessness.

And so, onPOPtical Illusion, he foregoes the illustrious cast to burrow mostly alone into mazes of synthesizers and samples, organs and pianos, with words that, as far as Cale goes, constitute a sort of swirling hope, a sage insistence that change is yet possible. Produced by Cale and longtime artistic partner Nita Scott,POPtical Illusion is the work of someone trying to turn toward the future exactly as Cale always has.

Brackett and Merrill subsequently formed The Peanut Butter Conspiracy but reformed 'Ashes' in 1968 with new singer Pat Taylor and drummer John Voight. On her new album, Sunset Drive, Denitia shares her story of going after something new a life back in Nashville, where she attended college, immersed in both the citys roots music scene and the community of the artist collective Black Opry while experiencing the menagerie of emotions that come with leaving behind what you knew and starting over. Across the album, she draws from the country and alternative rock music she listened to growing up outside of Houston; the songs of artists such as the Eagles, Vince Gill, Waylon Jennings, Joni Mitchell, Dolly Parton, and Neil Young, ever present in her life; and the decade she spent entrenched in Brooklyns indie music scene. Denitias music has been featured in the films Nanny and The Invitation, as well as in the series Better Things (FX), Broad City (Comedy Central), Dear White People (Netflix), Shrinking (Apple TV+), and The Terminal List (Amazon). She has toured extensively with the Black Opry Revue; been invited to perform at the National Museum of African American Music and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville; and shared stages with Jason Isbell, Amythyst Kiah, Joy Oladokun, and Allison Russell, among other artists. Mj Lenderman is a songwriter born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina. The anatomy of an MJ record might go something like this: warped pedal steels and skuzzed out guitar; crackin' a cold one with some buds; a voice reminiscent of the high-lonesome warble of a choirboy. Songs snake their way from a lo-fi home recording to something glossier made with longtime friends at Asheville's Drop of Sun studios, but the recording setting doesn't seem to matter much - at it's core, a Lenderman song rings true.Manning Fireworks is a remarkable development in Mj Lenderman's story as an incredibly incisive singer-songwriter, whose propensity for humor always points to some uneasy, disorienting darkness. The punchlines are still here, as are the rusted-wire guitar solos that have made Lenderman a favorite for indie rock fans looking for an emerging guitar hero. There's a new sincerity, too, as Lenderman let's listeners clearly see the world through his warped lens.

The songs on the album are treated like the complex feelings we feel, vague and cloaked in mystery, or sometimes blunt and pleading for change. Different instruments wash in and out like a stream of thoughts; some soothing, some disruptive. Year after year, our perspectives unravel into new version after new version, losing vital information with each update. The songs on this record speak to the forgetting. The name or phrase on the tip of our tongue that we cant say, because its hiding in our mind behind a worry or distraction. Because every song starts as a question, we attempt to avoid the urge to find an answer, and we ask more questions. When nothing is 100% anything, then what is concrete enough to define fully? No definitions here, just ideas with no value outside of their real time impact on the thinker. No promise of understanding, and all you can do is sing.

Worship the Sun [translucent orange LP]
$29.98  29.98
chart cover

Allah-Las met while working at Amoeba Music, a key destination for music lovers in Los Angeles. While this experience helped shape their sensibility, their sound was forged in an underground basement where they came together as a band. They began gigging in Los Angeles in 2008, refining their live performance, and finally released their first 7 single Catamaran / Long Journey in 2011. In 2012, they began their relationship with Innovative Leisure, releasing their first self-titled album, Allah-Las, anchored by their second single Tell Me (Whats On Your Mind) / Sacred Sands. The release was met with critical acclaim and the band toured extensively in the States and abroad before going back into the studio to record their follow-up. Allah-Las second album, Worship The Sun, expands on the sound established by their maiden effort, honing their fusion of West Coast garage rock and roll, Latin percussion and electric folk. As richly textured and timeless as a Southern California beach break, the songs are evocative of Los Angeles storied past. Beatniks, artists, surfers, nomads. Remnants of a bygone Sunset Strip. Golden tans and cosmic sunsets. One can feel the warmth of the sun, but the band deftly avoids the kitsch so often indulged by lovers of these things. Hints of Byrds, Love, Felt, and those who follow are threaded into the tapestry.

Shirt [Indie Exclusive Pink LP]
$29.98  29.98
chart cover

Shirt is part angsty fantasy, part confessional melodrama a rock album that oscillates between reality and make-believe to reflect both the innocence of suburban youth and the frayed reality of adulthood. A fusion of chaotic impulses, insatiable desires, and a perpetual yearning, Shirt plays with the tension between one's person and persona the weight of your dreams crashing up against your reality. The result is something both familiar and uncanny, an anthemic tribute to this intrinsic duality built on crashing and caressing sounds.

Shirt is instantly recognizable as Porches' heaviest album to date. Grungy guitars that shine with a menacing glint, drums and bass that punch you warmly in the stomach, interspersed with moments of eerie calmness to create a physical sense of tension and release that resonates with each track.

A concise record that thrusts listeners into a fevered state, Shirts hormonal rock songs collide with emotional ballads to create a dynamic tension that propels the listener ahead. The album speaks in broad, relatable terms while maintaining an intimate connection with its creator, blurring the line between universality and personal revelation. Shirt is as much about the climaxes as it is about the banality between life's most memorable moments, celebrating not just the first kiss but also the anxiety intertwined with it.

Rack [Indie Exclusive Silver Streak Vinyl]
$24.98  24.98
chart cover
The Jesus Lizard have returned with RACK, their first record since 1998. The album features 11 tracks of brisk guitar rock you haven’t heard since… the last time the Jesus Lizard took over a stage in your town. the Jesus Lizard — vocalist David Yow, guitarist Duane Denison, bassist David Wm. Sims, and drummer Mac McNeilly — have returned with a record teeming with the kind of madness needed to beat down today’s AOR mediocrity and piss-perfect pop drivel alike. Since their inception in Chicago in 1987, the Jesus Lizard has thrilled audiences all over the planet. The impeccable rocket-thrust rhythm section of Sims and McNeilly was the perfect launchpad for Denison’s jagged yet clean-toned riffing and Yow’s mercurial vocalizations manifesting as everything from panicked citizen, reality escapee or wounded sea mammal. the Jesus Lizard’s fury carried on through six studio albums, two live recordings and a brace of singles and EPs. On Rack, the Jesus Lizard have returned reconstituted, refreshed and positively revving. No tepid, bland tracks to show how they’ve “matured” as songwriters. No inane detours into unnecessary genre exercises. the Jesus Lizard. They might not be young, but they will never, ever get fucking old.

Willie Watson [LP]
$24.98  24.98
chart cover
After 30 years of playing music professionally, Willie Watson is releasing his debut album. A founding member of Old Crow Medicine Show, and a staple on the folk and americana circuit - Willie is no stranger to the stage and to audiences. But this is his first album of original music, aptly self titled, and a bold and confident statement in both song mastery and sonics. This record is about beating the devil. Willie didn't make any specific pact with him, but he had been tangled up with him his whole life. This album is about finding himself free of that devil, and learning to love himself again. It is about no longer leaning on old sounds and old folk singers and the music they made, and instead about learning to express himself freely and without limits. The result is a masterpiece.

The Forest Is The Path [Indie Exclusive Marbled Blue 2 LP Limited Edition]
$39.98  39.98
chart cover
Including the new single, “The Beginning,” The Forest Is The Path is an album rooted in reflection, introspection and interrogation. One of its key building blocks, says Gary Lightbody, was the idea of love from a distance, “I haven’t been in a relationship for a very long time, 10 years or more, so love from a distance to me meant the way a relationship sits in your memory from a distance of, say, 10 years. That’s not something I’d previously thought about as a way to write about love. So, it’s like, when you’re in love, you’re standing in the lobby of the Empire State Building. When you’ve broken up with that person, you’re out in the street. You can still see the building, but you’re not in there anymore. And when it’s 10 years later, now you’re standing in Brooklyn looking at the Manhattan skyline.”

Devourer [Red & Black 2 LP]
$44.98  44.98
chart cover
Very few bands manage to last decades, and for the ones that do, its often easy to settle down and get a little too comfortable. But theres nothing comfortable about Devourer, the explosive new album from Cursive. The iconic Omaha group is known for their intensity, ambition, and execution, and has spent 30 years creating a bold discography thats defined as much by its cathartic sound as its weighty, challenging lyrical themes. And Devourer is as daring as ever. Full of intense and incisive songs, the album proves exactly why Cursive have been so influential and enduringand why they remain so vital today. In the years since their 1995 formation, Cursive developed into one of the most important groups to emerge from the late-90s/early 00s moment when the lines between indie rock and post-hard-core began blurring into something altogether new. Albums like Domestica (2000) and The Ugly Organ (2003) became essential touchstones whose echoes can still be heard in new bands today. Devourer, as an expansive new double-album, examines humanitys bottomless capacity for consumption through a series of songs that act like vignettes, driven by frontman Tim Kashers never-end-ing appetite for both taking in and creating art. I am obsessive about consuming the arts, he explains. Music, film, literature. Ive come to recognize that I devour all of these art forms then, in turn, create my own versions of these things and spew them out onto the world. Its positive; youre part of an ecosystem. But I quickly recognized that the term, Devourer, may also embody something gnarly, sinister. Fans have come to expect such heady topics from Cursive, but Devourer sets a new standard. While Cursives music hasnt gotten any more comfortable, perhaps its being released into a world thats at least a little more shaped in their image. Devourer sounds urgent and fresh, the work of a band still experimenting, still hungering to find new creative heights. On album highlight Consumers, the protagonist bemoans, I saw ourn future and I want to go back. But Cursive are only moving forward.

Multi-platinum indie pop artist Dayglow reveals his new self-titled project and celebrates the official announcement by dropping his latest single Cocoon. DAYGLOW embodies exactly who Sloan Struble is as an artist and creative and acts as a proper introduction into the bright and colorful Dayglow world. The 10-track debut record was solely written, performed, recorded, produced, and mixed by Struble himself in his Malibu home studio. He opens up and shares, When I was 18 years old, I made my mixtape Fuzzybrain. I was a pretty introverted kid from a reasonably small town in Texas, so I didnt expect much to happen commercially for the recordI just made it for my own enjoyment, really. As a fan of the 2010s indie music scene (MGMT, The Strokes, Phoenix, Passion Pit, etc.), I wanted to see what kind of album I could make completely alone in my bedroom. So, out of the quest to make something I loved, Dayglow was born. It was a clear reflection of myself at that time. It was pure, naive, goofy, guitar-driven indie-pop made to be played live by a 5-piece band (that I didnt even have yet).

Now, a decade and a half later, the band is set to release their fifth album, Ultra Terrestrial, on September 13 2024. Flood [Indie Exclusive Clear Galaxy 2 LP]
$32.98  32.98
chart cover
Hippo Campus' singer Jake Luppen had been listening to the band's work as they rolled around the country, trying to tease out how much work remained. All of it, he soon decided. Obfuscated by the need to sound sophisticated and the overwhelming ambition to make the best Hippo Campus LP ever, a deeper and more profound record that reflected how their lives were changing. But Luppen and all of Hippo Campus decided they didn't actually like what they were making. So they called an audible. They were going to start over. And three months later, the four-member core of Hippo Campus rendezvoused with longtime collaborator Caleb Wright and producer Brad Cook at Sonic Ranch, a playground-like studio complex on the Texas border. They gave themselves 10 days to cut the tracks they liked best, to make something to which they could commit at last. Less than two weeks later, they emerged with what they'd given themselves half a decade to make-Flood, or the best album Hippo Campus has ever made. The sentiments on Flood are raw, real, and unguarded, a testament to Hippo Campus dropping preconceptions of how they had to sound after so many failed attempts to re-record these songs. They wiped the slate clean, starting over without beliefs about what Hippo Campus or this record needed to be. Still, sophistication lurks in subtle key and tempo changes, in the almost innate shifts that a band of longtime best friends can tap after so much time spent helping to shape one another's musical language. Flood doesn't need to tell you it's important or interesting; it simply is, just by virtue of how it's written, built, and rendered, a map of what it's like to feel everything at once. This rebirth is accompanied by a crucial career shift for Hippo Campus, too, as they exit the traditional label system to issue LP4 via Psychic Hotline, a truly independent imprint run by peers and pals. If you're working to let go of expectations, why not jettison them all? There's a bravery to that, and you can hear it's revivifying spirit in every second of LP4.Early into the endlessly propulsive "Paranoid," where stunted acoustic strums undergird an inescapable jangle, Luppen asks an existential question: "Is there something waiting out there for us at the finish line?" For the next three minutes, the band cycles with him through his woes, from the title's overwhelming worry to notions of dislocation and loneliness. (Also, is there any other refrain ever that manages to make the phrase "so god-damned fucking" sound so catchy and natural?) But in the final verse, with his voice breaking through a scrim of distortion, he stumbles upon a new credo: "Wait, I wanna give this life all that I have in me." That is precisely what Hippo Campus have done with Flood after realizing it doesn't take a lifetime-or, well, five years-to do just that.

In tandem with Coldplays ground-breaking sustainability measures on their current tour - which has so far produced 59% less CO2e emissions than their previous stadium tour - the band have gone to great lengths to make the physical release ofMoon Music as sustainable as possible.

This will be the world's first album released as a 140gEcoRecord rPET LP, with each copy containing nine recycled PET-plastic bottles recovered from post-consumer waste. This will prevent the manufacture of more than 25 metric tonnes of virgin plastic, and provide an 85% reduction in manufacturing process CO2 emissions/kg compared to traditional 140g vinyl.

Additionally, the band have collaborated with long-time partnersThe Ocean Cleanupto create an additional format: the Notebook Edition EcoRecord rPET LP. The rPET for this edition comprises 70% river plastic, intercepted byThe Ocean Cleanupfrom theRio Las Vacas, Guatemala, and prevented from reaching the Gulf of Honduras and the Atlantic Ocean.

The CD editions ofMoon Musicwill be the worlds first to be released onEcoCD, created from 90% recycled polycarbonate, sourced from post-consumer waste streams. This will provide at least a 78% CO2/kg emission reduction, and avoid the manufacture of more than five metric tonnes of virgin plastic.

In an effort to reduce waste, the first edition run ofMoon Music(both EcoRecord rPET LP and EcoCD) will be strictly limited and produced at a higher specification than any future editions. All First Edition EcoRecord rPET LP productswill be individually numbered.
